MAG Community Art Center members are invited to participate in our annual members exhibition. Please make sure you can meet the above schedule. Following are guidelines for participation.

• Small Works means no larger than 20” in any one direction.

• Members may leave 2 pieces, but the show will be curated.

• No late entries will be accepted.

• Pieces must be ready for installation (2D pieces wired to hang) and properly labeled.

• While not mandatory, it is highly encouraged that pieces are for sale. We are using prime real estate during the prime retail season.

• If you cannot meet the pick up schedule, please make arrangements for someone else to pick up your work (let us know). Work not picked up on Dec. 22 will be considered abandoned and become property of MAG.

Arts for All Kentucky and the MAG Community Art Center  are pleased to announce that we are now accepting registration for your child to participate in the SIDE BY SIDE program. SIDE BY SIDE is designed to make available creative opportunities to students, reinforce inclusiveness and positive self-image, and highlight the importance of visual arts education to the development of our young people. This fall, Arts for All Kentucky (artsforallky.org) and the MAG are once again partnering with Murray State University’s Art Education Program. Following the 4 studios at MSU,  your student will have the opportunity to create artwork alongside a local artist on a collaborative creative piece.

Murray State University Associate Professor of Art and Design in Art Education Dr. Rebecca Williams and her students will teach the studios. Classes will meet in the Photo Studio (room 735) on the 6th floor of the Fine Arts Building on MSU campus. If accompanying your student to class you will want to get a parking permit for campus.

The SIDE BY SIDE visual arts workshops/studios are scheduled as follows:

The following dates are available for Collaborative Studios, please make your selection on the registration form.

Collaborative Studios will meet at MAG, 500 N 4th Street, 4:00-5:00pm. Students will be partnered with a local artist to create a collaborative piece of art.  Your child must be available to complete their collaborative pieces. 

Works from this year’s program will be displayed in an exhibition, scheduled for February  2027,  at Murray’s Convention and Visitor Bureau at 206 South 4th Street.  An exhibition closing is tentatively scheduled for Sunday Feb. 21st, 2pm.

Description: 

Suitable for beginner painters, delve into the watercolor experience.  Learn basic watercolor painting techniques.  Each week we will explore different types of landscapes; students are welcome to bring their own reference photos or draw from their imagination.

Students are expected to bring any supplies they already have. If you don’t have any supplies, it is recommended that you purchase and bring:

• Tube Paint-Windsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor 20 piece Set (midrange is fine)

• Brushes-minimum round 8 & 2, and a 1 inch flat or mop brush

• Roll of blue painters tape

• Pad of Watercolor paper-Canson cold press

• Ceramic or Plastic plate for mixing colors

Description: 

Join instructor Anne Wilson and Arts for All Kentucky in this free workshop on Friday, October 2nd. This is a workshop for adults with disabilities from our local community to engage in creative expression with fellow art enthusiasts.

Using the Australian Artist known as Pip & Pop as our inspo, we will create fantastic worlds with candy coated monsters, colorful terrains,  and anything we could possibly imagine.

Get ready to get messy! Kids & helpers will be doing different fun projects every week, with a process oriented approach to creating. Please wear old / play clothes!

Description: 

“Inkle” means small band. In this workshop, participants will learn to warp and weave on an Inkle loom to make bookmarks or bands. All supplies will be provided.

Join us on the Third Thursday of each month for an evening of art journaling. No art experience required! This is a great time to explore and play with different art techniques in a relaxed environment. Whether you are new to art journaling or are a pro, this is a relaxing class that is lightly guided with plenty of room for experimentation.  Each month there is a prompt for writing and new approaches to mark making, the rest is up to you! Sketchbooks are encouraged but not required. Paper will be provided as well as all materials needed for each class. Bring a friend, your favorite drink, and a desire to create art for yourself.
